Queensland police have charged a 48-year-old man with murder following the discovery of human remains in bushland west of Brisbane. The victim is believed to be 30-year-old Jana Armstrong, a mother who was reported missing from her home in Toowoomba earlier this week. While formal identification is still pending, investigators have confirmed the discovery of the remains in steep terrain near Esk-Hampton Road on Saturday night. The site was located by members of the public who were out hunting pigs in the area.
Authorities launched an investigation after Ms. Armstrong was reported missing on Tuesday. Police had previously located her white Hyundai vehicle on Wednesday morning, which prompted an urgent search effort. Following the discovery of the remains, police executed a search warrant at a residence on West Street in the Toowoomba suburb of Harristown. The 48-year-old man, identified as Ms. Armstrong’s former partner, was arrested at the property where he was found with the couple's four-month-old child.
Detective Acting Inspector Brian Collins described the incident as a horrific crime that has deeply impacted the local community. The accused is expected to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday to face one count of domestic violence murder. Police are currently appealing for any information from members of the public who may have been in the area between Toowoomba and Esk during the time of the disappearance. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
