A man in his 30s was shot dead in a targeted attack in Carlingford, in Sydney's north-west, on Wednesday morning. Emergency services were called to North Rocks Road shortly after 7am following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers from The Hills Police Area Command discovered the man inside a vehicle with significant injuries from multiple gunshots. Despite efforts to revive him, he died at the scene and has yet to be formally identified.
Police have described the incident as a very brazen attack. Acting Superintendent Michael Marinello confirmed that the victim was known to police and that the shooting does not appear to be a random act. Investigators are currently examining potential links to organised crime as part of their inquiries. The area remains a crime scene, with forensic teams processing evidence and authorities reviewing local CCTV footage to track the movements of those involved.
While the investigation is in its early stages, police are looking into reports that the shooting may have occurred up to two hours before emergency services were alerted. Several witnesses, including individuals who were near the location at the time, are assisting with the investigation. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while the road remains closed for forensic examination.
Police have reassured the community that they believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to the general public. As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on the victim's background and potential connections to other individuals within the community. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers to assist with the ongoing probe.
