Authorities have cancelled the Amber Alert for six-year-old Lanakai Morrison in Alberta and British Columbia, though the search for the child remains active across the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. The RCMP issued the alert following the alleged abduction of the boy from the hamlet of Valhalla Centre, Alberta, on July 7, 2026.
Police believe Lanakai is travelling with his mother, 35-year-old Krista Morrison, her partner, 35-year-old Daniel Ludwig, and another child, four-year-old Karl Morrison. Investigators previously identified a black 2015 Toyota Tundra as the vehicle of interest, but that vehicle was located by officers. The group is now believed to be driving a 2006 red Ford F350 with Alberta licence plate CXW8820.
The decision to cancel the alert in Alberta and British Columbia was based on the determination that the criteria for an active public alert were no longer met, as there was no reasonable expectation that the public in those regions could further assist in locating the individuals. Despite the cancellation, the investigation remains a high priority for law enforcement agencies across the northern territories.
Lanakai is described as having a slight build, light brown hair, and brown eyes. Police continue to urge the public not to approach the suspects or the vehicle if spotted. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the group is instructed to contact 911 immediately rather than attempting to intervene.
