Alimentation Couche-Tard, the Canadian parent company of Circle K, has agreed to acquire Poland's leading convenience store chain, Zabka, for approximately $8.7 billion. This acquisition marks a significant expansion for Couche-Tard in Europe, following its recent purchase of European retail assets from TotalEnergies.

Zabka operates over 13,000 stores across Poland and Romania, handling around 4.3 million daily transactions. The company also boasts approximately 11.7 million users across its digital platforms.

The sellers include private equity firms CVC Capital Partners and Partners Group, both of which have agreed to tender their shares to Couche-Tard.

This move underscores the ongoing competitive dynamics between global convenience store giants, as Couche-Tard continues to expand its European footprint.

The acquisition is expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals. Once completed, Couche-Tard plans to integrate Zabka's operations into its existing European network, aiming to enhance its market presence and service offerings in the region.
