Additionally, the Robert Koch Institute reported over 5,000 deaths linked to high temperatures during the June heatwave, with the majority of victims being over 75 years old.
Authorities have acknowledged that Germany is insufficiently prepared for such extreme heat. In June, temperatures reached 41°C, leading to the closure of roads and transport systems. The persistent heat has also exacerbated drought conditions, leading to low soil moisture and heightened wildfire risks.
