Calcutta High Court establishes fast-track courts for NEET paper leak case

The Calcutta High Court has set up five fast-track courts to expedite the trial of individuals involved in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak case. This decision aims to ensure swift justice and deter future examination malpractices. The move follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive to establish such courts for paper leak cases, emphasizing the government's commitment to upholding the integrity of public examinations. The fast-track courts will operate under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, which prescribes stringent penalties for those found guilty of examination-related offenses. The first hearing in one of these courts was scheduled for July 27, 2026, but was adjourned due to the absence of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel. The next hearing is set for August 3, 2026. The establishment of these courts is expected to expedite the legal process, providing timely justice to the victims and reinforcing public trust in the examination system.
