In the early hours of June 15, 2026, a violent incident unfolded in Leilon Munlui, a Kuki-majority village situated between Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. Around 6 a.m., an exchange of gunfire erupted between two armed groups, resulting in injuries to three local villagers. The victims—Genlenmang Vaiphei (18), Lunliandaw Vaiphei (20), and Paogou Lal (18)—were all volunteers from the Leimakhong area. One of the injured sustained critical abdominal gunshot wounds. Initially treated at the Army Hospital in Leimakhong, the victims were subsequently transferred to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for further care, with assistance from central security forces. The Leilon Munlui Village Authority condemned the attack, alleging that suspected NSCN-IM militants were responsible. They claimed the assault originated from the direction of a CRPF bunker near Konsakhul, less than 100 meters from the village. The authority further alleged that the militants operated with support from the CRPF, noting that both the attack and the retreat occurred from the CRPF's side, and security personnel did not intervene. Residents expressed fear and a loss of confidence in the security arrangements provided by the CRPF. The village authority called for immediate action from both state and central governments to arrest those responsible and prevent further violence. They also demanded the withdrawal of the CRPF post at Konsakhul, alleging its use as a launching pad for attacks on nearby Kuki villages. Failure to meet these demands, they warned, would hold the CRPF accountable for any escalation in violence. As of now, there has been no official response from the CRPF or NSCN-IM regarding these allegations.
