Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to inaugurate two new express trains from Odisha on Monday, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and passenger convenience. The new services include the Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad Express and the Puri–Patna Express, both of which will commence regular operations following their launch.
Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad Express
The Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad Express (Train No. 18403/18404) will operate daily, providing a direct link between Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, and Dhanbad in Jharkhand. The train is scheduled to depart Bhubaneswar at 8:25 PM, reaching Dhanbad at 11:00 AM the following day. The return journey will commence from Dhanbad at 4:00 PM, arriving back in Bhubaneswar at 7:45 AM the next morning. En route, the train will halt at several stations, including Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Talcher Road, Angul, Rairakhol, Sambalpur City, Jharsuguda, and Rourkela, facilitating convenient boarding and alighting for passengers along the route.
Puri–Patna Express will operate weekly, connecting the coastal city of Puri in Odisha with Patna, the capital of Bihar. This service is expected to boost tourism and cultural exchanges between the two states. The train will depart Puri at 2:55 PM on Saturdays, arriving in Patna at 10:45 AM the following day. The return journey will begin from Patna at 1:30 PM on Sundays, reaching Puri at 9:45 AM the next morning. The train will make stops at Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur, Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, and Balasore, ensuring accessibility for passengers from various towns and cities along the route.
Significance of the New Services
The introduction of these express trains is a significant step towards improving rail connectivity in eastern India. By providing direct and efficient services between key cities, these trains are expected to enhance passenger convenience, promote tourism, and stimulate economic activities in the regions they serve. The Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad Express, for instance, will facilitate easier travel for business and leisure travelers between Odisha and Jharkhand, while the Puri–Patna Express is poised to attract tourists to the culturally rich city of Puri.
Government's Commitment to Infrastructure Development
The launch of these trains underscores the government's commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure and connectivity in Odisha and neighboring states. In recent months, several initiatives have been undertaken to bolster rail services in the region. Notably, the regularization of the Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad and Puri–Patna special trains into regular express services was approved earlier this year, reflecting a sustained effort to improve passenger services.
Additionally, the introduction of the Puri–Koraput tri-weekly express train has been announced, aiming to strengthen connectivity between coastal, western, and southern Odisha. This service is expected to unlock new avenues for travel, tourism, and economic prosperity across the region.
Looking Ahead
The launch of the Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad and Puri–Patna Express trains is anticipated to be a game-changer for regional connectivity. As these services commence, passengers can look forward to improved travel experiences, reduced journey times, and enhanced comfort. The government's ongoing focus on railway infrastructure development promises further enhancements in the near future, contributing to the overall growth and development of the region.
