The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two individuals, Hamim Mondal and Arpita Sarkar, on allegations of operating as part of a Pakistan-linked terror module. According to investigators, the suspects were in contact with handlers from the Shehzad Bhatti gang, a group reportedly associated with radicalization and extremist recruitment. The arrests follow a multi-state operation that has shed light on a broader plan to destabilize public order and target high-profile political figures.
During the investigation, police discovered that the suspects were actively gathering intelligence on West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Officials stated that the operatives were studying the Chief Minister’s movement patterns to identify security vulnerabilities. Beyond the threat to the Chief Minister, the STF revealed that the suspects were instructed to infiltrate student protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The plan allegedly involved procuring police uniforms to create unrest and incite violence during the demonstrations.
Authorities recovered digital evidence, including encrypted messages and documents, from the suspects' devices. These materials suggest that the plot extended to other political leaders and police officers. The STF is currently analyzing bank transactions and communication logs to map the full extent of the network. Both suspects have been remanded to police custody as the investigation continues to identify other potential operatives involved in this cross-border conspiracy.
