The 57-year-old former first-class cricketer steps into the role following the departure of T Dilip, whose contract was not renewed after his tenure concluded following India's recent tour of Zimbabwe. Ghosh is expected to begin his duties immediately, with his first major assignment being the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to commence on August 15 in Galle.
Ghosh brings extensive coaching experience to the national setup. A former player for Assam and Railways, he transitioned into coaching after his playing career ended in 2004. His professional background includes serving as the fielding coach for the India women's team during the 2022 and 2023 ICC World Cups, as well as working with the India A squad and at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. His appointment is part of a broader restructuring of the support staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir, following the exits of several key personnel.
