Malaysia will host the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix in October after the government secured a waiver of the multi-million ringgit registration fee, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced. The only cost to Malaysia is RM16 million for upgrades to the Sepang International Circuit track. The deal was facilitated by royal diplomacy: the King's friendship with the Bahrain king was instrumental. Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi said the event will boost tourism and the economy. The government also plans to offer affordable 'Madani tickets' to make the race accessible to the public.
