Court hears company owner sought Bersatu leader's help for Jana Wibawa project

In a Kuala Lumpur High Court session on July 28, 2026, Lian Tan Chuan, founder of Nepturis Sdn Bhd, testified that he sought assistance from Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, former deputy chief of Segambut Bersatu, to secure a project under the Jana Wibawa program. Lian was introduced to Adam by Azman Yusoff, managing director of KCJ Engineering Sdn Bhd, who suggested that companies applying for Jana Wibawa projects needed the then Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's backing. Azman described Adam as a close associate of Muhyiddin, often seen golfing together, and believed Adam could facilitate the project acquisition. In December 2020, Lian met Adam at a restaurant in Publika, where they discussed a RM100 million construction project for the North Klang District Police Headquarters listed under Jana Wibawa. Adam requested a letter of intent and company profile to present to Muhyiddin, which Lian provided. Shortly after, Adam informed Lian that Muhyiddin had given his support for the application. Believing this endorsement would enhance their chances, Lian later informed Azman of the positive development. Azman then requested a RM1 million donation to Bersatu, which Lian agreed to, understanding it as a reward for the assistance provided. The donation was made on February 16, 2022, through a cheque from Nepturis Sdn Bhd. The project was awarded to Nepturis on January 12, 2022, after receiving the Letter of Acceptance from the Public Works Department for the RM141 million tendered project. The trial, involving former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, continues with charges related to abuse of power and money laundering concerning the Jana Wibawa program, which was introduced during his tenure to expedite projects and stimulate the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
