Public transport operator Go-Ahead Singapore has officially begun its transition to become the anchor operator for the Tampines bus network. The handover, which involves 29 bus services, is being conducted in two distinct phases to ensure that daily commutes remain stable and disruption-free for the public. The first group of 14 bus services was successfully transferred from SBS Transit to Go-Ahead Singapore on July 5, 2026. The remaining 15 services are scheduled for transfer on July 19, 2026.
Under this new contract, Go-Ahead Singapore will manage key transport hubs, including the Tampines Bus Interchange, Tampines Concourse Bus Interchange, Tampines North Bus Interchange, and the Changi Business Park Bus Terminal. All services will operate out of the newly opened East Coast Integrated Depot in Changi, which is currently the largest facility of its kind in Singapore. The operator will manage a fleet of approximately 400 buses, including 260 electric vehicles, as part of its commitment to a greener transport network.
For the average commuter, the transition is designed to be seamless. The Land Transport Authority and the operators have confirmed that there will be no changes to existing bus routes or fare structures during this period. Most employees affected by the changeover have opted to join Go-Ahead Singapore, with the company promising employment terms that are no less favorable than their previous arrangements. Those who chose not to transition have been redeployed by SBS Transit to other roles within the company.
This move marks a significant milestone for Go-Ahead Singapore, which is now in its tenth year of operations in the country. By taking on the Tampines package, the company has effectively doubled its local presence. The shift is part of the broader Bus Contracting Model, where the government awards packages through competitive tendering to ensure high service standards and operational efficiency across the island.
