Pritam Singh, Secretary-General of the Workers' Party (WP) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied GRC, is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Law Society of Singapore. This action follows his conviction in February 2025 on two counts of lying under oath to the Committee of Privileges. The charges stemmed from false statements he made regarding former WP MP Raeesah Khan's false testimony in Parliament in 2021 concerning a sexual assault case. Singh's appeal against the conviction was dismissed by the High Court in December 2025, resulting in a S$14,000 fine. Subsequently, Parliament passed a motion on January 14, 2026, deeming him unfit to continue as Leader of the Opposition, and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong formally removed him from the position on January 15. The Law Society's disciplinary proceedings were initiated on March 4, 2026, in compliance with the Legal Profession Act, following information from the Attorney-General's Chambers that Singh had been convicted of offences involving "fraud or dishonesty." The proceedings are scheduled to be heard by the Court of Three Judges on August 13, 2026. The panel will consist of Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, Justice Kannan Ramesh, and Justice See Kee Oon. The Law Society is represented by Senior Counsel Cavinder Bull from Drew & Napier LLC, while Singh is represented by Peter Cuthbert Low from Peter Low Chambers LLC. As a non-practising lawyer, Singh faces potential sanctions ranging from suspension to being struck off the roll of advocates and solicitors. The Workers' Party has also convened its own disciplinary panel to determine if Singh contravened the party's constitution, with findings expected imminently.
