Singapore is embarking on an ambitious initiative to develop artificial intelligence (AI) models tailored to its unique healthcare landscape. The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) have unveiled the Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Guidelines (AIHGle 2.0), aiming to provide practical guidance for the safe development, deployment, and use of AI in healthcare settings.
A cornerstone of this strategy is the Health Empowerment Through Advance Learning and Intelligent eXchange (HEALIX) platform. HEALIX serves as a secure repository for anonymized clinical and socioeconomic data, facilitating the creation and training of AI models that are deeply integrated with Singapore's clinical practices and medical guidelines.
The initial focus of these AI models will be on cardiometabolic and ophthalmic diseases. By analyzing local health records, medical images, and other pertinent data, these models aim to identify patients at risk and suggest care pathways that clinicians can consider. This approach ensures that the AI tools are contextually relevant and aligned with Singapore's healthcare priorities.
To ensure the effectiveness and safety of these AI applications, the MOH and HSA have emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and continuous validation.
