The Singapore Traffic Police recently concluded a three-day islandwide enforcement operation targeting errant commercial vehicle drivers. Conducted from July 20 to July 22, 2026, the operation resulted in 154 summonses being issued after officers stopped 276 commercial vehicles for checks. The enforcement effort highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety standards among heavy vehicle operators.
Common traffic offences identified during the operation included speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt, and failing to keep to the left lane. Beyond these traffic-specific violations, authorities also detected 99 additional infringements related to Land Transport Authority regulations, such as the display of improper licence plates. These cases have been referred to the Land Transport Authority for further investigation and potential follow-up action.
In a more serious development, three individuals aged between 34 and 47 were apprehended for driving without a valid licence and operating vehicles without the required insurance coverage. These drivers now face potential fines or imprisonment under the Road Traffic Act and the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act.
Authorities used the operation to reiterate the importance of compliance with safety equipment requirements. Heavy vehicles are mandated to be fitted with functioning speed limiters and must display corresponding labels on their windscreens. Vehicles found exceeding speed limits are subject to mandatory inspections to ensure these safety devices are operating correctly. Non-compliant vehicles face severe consequences, including the inability to renew road tax and potential reductions in insurance coverage.
