A worker was injured on Sunday after a hostile drone targeted an offshore drilling platform operated by the Kuwait Oil Company. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense reported that the strike caused material damage to the rig, which is located within the country's territorial waters. In addition to the platform attack, three northern border posts in Kuwait also sustained damage from separate hostile actions. Authorities have confirmed that the injured worker is receiving medical treatment, while the military remains on high alert to secure vital installations.
The incident occurred amid a sharp escalation in regional hostilities between the United States and Iran. Earlier on Sunday, U.S. Central Command announced it had conducted a significant wave of strikes against approximately 140 Iranian military targets. These operations, which included hits on missile and drone launch sites, ammunition dumps, and communication equipment, were intended to degrade Iran's capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tensions have spiked following a series of retaliatory exchanges. Iran has responded to the U.S. strikes by targeting sites linked to U.S. military presence across the Gulf, including locations in Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. While Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed until further notice, U.S. officials and maritime authorities maintain that commercial traffic continues to move through the vital waterway.
The international community has expressed deep concern over the widening conflict. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned that a return to full-scale hostilities could have catastrophic consequences for the region. As the U.S. and Iran remain near the midpoint of a 60-day interim deal aimed at ending the war, the recent surge in violence has placed diplomatic negotiations in serious jeopardy.
