A 22-year-old Toronto man is dead and two other men are in the hospital following a targeted shooting in North York late Friday night. Toronto police responded to the scene near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West shortly after 11 p.m. to find three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, 22-year-old Abdihamiim Aden was pronounced dead at the scene. The two surviving victims remain in the hospital with serious, though non-life-threatening, injuries.
Investigators believe the attack was a targeted incident, though the specific motive remains under investigation. Police are currently searching for three male suspects who were seen fleeing the area in a black Honda Civic. Authorities later discovered the vehicle, which had been reported stolen in North York several days prior, abandoned and set on fire in Brampton early Sunday morning. The suspects are described as tall and lanky, and were reportedly wearing all-black clothing and masks at the time of the shooting.
This incident has prompted a significant police response in the North York community. Detective Sergeant Sandra Arruda stated that officers are dedicating all necessary resources to the investigation, including canvassing the neighborhood and processing evidence from both the shooting site and the location where the getaway car was recovered. Police are urging anyone with security footage or information regarding the suspects to come forward to assist in the ongoing homicide investigation.
Public safety remains a primary concern as authorities work to identify those responsible for this violence. While police have assured residents that they are prioritizing the case, the brazen nature of the shooting has left many in the community unsettled. Investigators continue to work closely with the families of victims as they piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
