BBVA, Spain's second-largest bank, has announced a record net profit of €6.051 billion for the first half of 2026, marking an 11.1% increase from the previous year. This strong performance is largely attributed to a significant boost in credit activity, with the bank's loan portfolio expanding by 17.7% in constant euros. Additionally, net interest income rose by 20.3% to €15.164 billion, and net fees and commissions increased by 14% to €4.572 billion. The bank's return on tangible equity (ROTE) stood at 22.2%, and its CET1 capital ratio was 12.90%, both exceeding internal targets. In response to these positive results, BBVA announced a new €2 billion share buyback program, with the first tranche of €1 billion set to begin on August 5. Geographically, Mexico remained the largest contributor, with a profit of €2.979 billion (up 15.8%), followed by Spain at €2.172 billion (up 2.3%), and Turkey at €532 million (up 29.1%).
