The death toll from the recent floods in Assam has risen to 78, with three additional fatalities reported in the past 24 hours. Over 524,700 people remain affected across five districts, despite signs of improvement in the overall situation.
Charaideo district continues to be the worst-hit, with nearly 190,000 residents grappling with floodwaters. Other severely impacted areas include Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metropolitan).
In response to the crisis, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has established 649 relief camps, providing shelter to 47,465 displaced individuals. Rescue operations are ongoing, with 181 boats deployed to evacuate stranded residents.
The floods have also caused significant damage to infrastructure, including embankments, roads, and bridges. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans for phased power restoration and comprehensive rehabilitation efforts to repair damaged infrastructure and schools.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with forecasts indicating continued rainfall in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels and adhere to safety guidelines.
