In a recent incident in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, a burglary occurred in the early hours of June 19, 2026. Amitabh Prasad, 54, and his wife woke up to find themselves locked inside their bedroom. After using spare keys to unlock the door, they discovered that their house had been ransacked, with diamond jewellery and Rs 50,000 in cash missing, totaling approximately Rs 1.15 crore. The living room window was found open, and CCTV footage revealed two shirtless men entering through the window, searching the house, and fleeing. The modus operandi bears similarities to the notorious 'kaccha baniyan' gang, known for their robberies in South Delhi. In May 2026, six members of this gang were arrested for a robbery in Sarvodaya Enclave, where they entered a house, locked the bedrooms, and stole jewellery. The gang is known for their distinctive attire—undergarments and masks—and their ability to scale walls and enter through balconies. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the recent burglary is linked to this gang.
