Effective July 30, 2026, Malaysia's Ministry of Finance (MOF) has announced a 20 sen per litre increase in the retail prices of RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 petrol, and a 35 sen per litre rise for unsubsidised diesel. This adjustment brings RON97 to RM4.20 per litre, unsubsidised RON95 to RM3.62 per litre, and unsubsidised diesel to RM4.72 per litre. The MOF attributed these increases to higher global crude oil prices, influenced by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) dictates these weekly price adjustments, reflecting fluctuations in international oil markets. Despite the rise in unsubsidised fuel prices, the government has maintained the subsidised RON95 price at RM1.99 per litre under the BUDI95 scheme, ensuring continued affordability for eligible consumers.
This price hike follows a series of adjustments in recent months. On July 23, 2026, the MOF increased unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 prices by 20 sen per litre each, and unsubsidised diesel by 35 sen per litre, citing similar global market conditions. Earlier, on June 24, 2026, the ministry had reduced RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 prices by 25 sen per litre, and diesel by 30 sen per litre, due to easing global oil prices.
The government continues to monitor global oil price trends and is committed to balancing fiscal responsibility with consumer protection. While unsubsidised fuel prices are subject to market fluctuations, the subsidised rates remain stable to support the public during periods of volatility.
