Singapore’s Circle Line officially became a complete orbital loop on July 12, 2026, with the opening of three new stations: Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward Road. This milestone marks the conclusion of the Circle Line Stage 6 project, which connects HarbourFront to Marina Bay and finishes a 39-kilometer rail network that has been under development for over three decades. The new stations provide commuters with more direct travel options, effectively bypassing the need to transfer at busy central interchanges like City Hall or Raffles Place.
For many daily travelers, the completion means significant time savings. For instance, a journey from Telok Blangah to Marina Bay can now be completed on a single train, cutting travel time by approximately 10 minutes. The Land Transport Authority noted that the completed line now features 33 stations, including 12 interchanges that link to every existing MRT line in the country. This integration is designed to strengthen the overall resilience of the rail network and improve access to key employment and residential areas, including the future Greater Southern Waterfront.
Engineering the final stretch was a complex task that required tunneling under the live Keppel Viaduct and removing hidden coastal structures left over from former port operations. Because the line now forms a continuous loop, the transit operator has introduced a new wayfinding system. Commuters are encouraged to check platform signs for clockwise or anticlockwise directions and look for the next interchange station on their route to navigate the updated system effectively.
To support the expected increase in passenger volume, 23 new trains have been added to the fleet. The opening was met with enthusiasm from the public, with many commuters and rail enthusiasts arriving at the stations early in the morning to experience the first rides. The completion of the loop fulfills a long-standing infrastructure goal, finally providing the seamless orbital connectivity that was envisioned in the original rail design.
