This early announcement allows families, educators, and school administrators to begin planning their schedules well in advance. The structured calendar provides clarity on term dates, holidays, and examination periods, ensuring a smooth transition for the upcoming academic cycle.
For the 2027 school year, students entering Kindergarten 1, Primary 1, and all secondary school levels will report to their respective institutions on January 4. Students in Kindergarten 2 and Primary 2 through 6 will follow one day later, beginning their classes on January 5. This staggered start is a standard practice designed to help younger students and those entering new school environments settle in more effectively.
The academic year for these levels is scheduled to conclude on November 19, 2027. However, an important exception applies to schools designated as venues for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) written examinations. In these specific locations, the final school term will end earlier, on October 29, to accommodate the national testing schedule.
Post-secondary students will follow a slightly different timeline. Those entering their first year at a junior college or the Millennia Institute will begin their studies on February 3, while returning students at these institutions will start on January 11. Year-end holidays for these students will generally begin on November 27, though those sitting for the GCE A-Level examinations will finish their academic commitments after their final papers are completed.
By providing these dates nearly 18 months in advance, the MOE aims to assist households in managing childcare arrangements, travel plans, and enrichment activities. The ministry has also outlined four scheduled school holidays throughout the year, including Youth Day, the day after National Day, Teachers' Day, and Children's Day, to ensure students have balanced breaks between their academic terms.
