In 2024, Singapore recorded 441 suicide deaths, marking a 1.6% increase from the previous year. Notably, suicide remained the leading cause of death among individuals aged 10 to 29, a trend observed for the sixth consecutive year. The final suicide death rate stood at 8.23 per 100,000 residents.
The data revealed a significant rise in suicides among adults aged 30 to 39, with 99 deaths in 2024—a 50% increase from 66 in 2023. This age group now faces suicide as the second leading cause of death.
Males accounted for 65.8% of suicide deaths in 2024, with 290 cases. The median age of those who died by suicide in 2025 reached 48.5 years, the highest since 2017.
The Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) highlighted that adults aged 30 to 39 often face complex pressures related to family, employment, and social isolation. For youths aged 10 to 29, stressors include family issues, education, and interpersonal relationships.
SOS emphasized the importance of community support and intervention, noting that suicide prevention requires collective effort from family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to recognize when someone may be struggling and direct them to appropriate support resources.
For those in crisis, SOS offers 24-hour support through its hotline at 1-767 and CareText via WhatsApp at 9151-1767.
