Singapore is implementing a series of measures to mitigate the economic impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict, aiming to alleviate rising costs for households and businesses. Acting Transport Minister and Senior Minister of State for Finance, Jeffrey Siow, announced nearly $1 billion in additional support to address these challenges.
To assist Singaporeans facing increased living expenses, the government is expediting the disbursement of $500 Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers, bringing forward the distribution to June 2026. Additionally, the Cost-of-Living Special Payment has been enhanced by $200, with eligible citizens set to receive between $400 and $600 in cash by September 2026.
For workers directly affected by rising fuel prices, a $200 cash payout will be provided to active platform workers, including delivery riders and private-hire car drivers. This initiative aims to offset the immediate impact of increased fuel costs on their earnings.
In the transport sector, while fuel prices have risen due to the conflict, Singapore's fuel supply remains stable, with open supply lines and adequate stockpiles. The government is closely monitoring the situation and will consider intervention if necessary to maintain stability.
Acting Minister Siow emphasized that broad reductions in fuel duties are not being implemented, as such measures could be regressive and may not effectively address the needs of all citizens. Instead, targeted support is being prioritized to ensure assistance reaches those most affected by the conflict's economic repercussions.
