Singapore's Cross Island Line (CRL), the nation's longest underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line, is set to expand with the addition of four new stations by the late 2030s. This extension aims to enhance connectivity between Taman Jurong and western industrial estates, providing commuters with more efficient travel options.
The CRL is being developed in phases, with the first phase expected to open in 2030. The upcoming extension, part of Phase 3, will introduce stations at Jurong Pier and Gul Circle, serving as interchanges with the Jurong Region Line and East-West Line, respectively. This strategic planning is designed to improve accessibility and reduce travel times for residents and workers in these areas.
The addition of these stations is part of Singapore's broader efforts to expand its rail network, aiming to have about 80% of households within a 10-minute walk of a train station by the 2030s. The CRL's extension is expected to alleviate congestion on existing lines and provide a more direct route for commuters traveling between the eastern and western parts of the island.
