The monsoon season has posed significant challenges to the Mumbai-Pune region, with heavy rains leading to landslides, road closures, and tragic loss of life. In response, the Maharashtra government has taken several measures to address the situation and ensure public safety.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain over the next 24 hours. The warning also included gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 km/h, urging residents to remain cautious as monsoon activity intensifies. The government has been actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to manage the crisis. It has also engaged various agencies to expedite the restoration of these critical routes.
In addition to the road disruptions, rail services have also been impacted. The Bhor Ghat section, a critical mountainous stretch for both rail and road networks, experienced significant debris accumulation, specifically affecting the tracks near Thakurwadi and the area between Khandala and Monkey Hill.
