In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling activities, Singaporean authorities arrested 17 individuals aged between 45 and 76 on July 6, 2026. The operation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department, the Police Intelligence Department, and the Special Operations Command, targeted unlawful remote gambling operations across the island. Raids were executed simultaneously at multiple locations, including Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Potong Pasir, Changi, Pasir Ris, Bedok, Joo Chiat, Tampines, Kaki Bukit, West Coast, Bukit Batok, and Choa Chu Kang. During these coordinated efforts, law enforcement seized over S$720,000 in cash, along with electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers, and gambling-related paraphernalia. Four men, aged between 47 and 76, and a 47-year-old woman have been charged in court for offences under the Gambling Control Act. If convicted, they face fines up to S$500,000 and imprisonment for up to seven years. Investigations into the remaining suspects are ongoing. The police emphasized that major international sporting events, like the FIFA World Cup, often lead to an increase in gambling activities, including illegal betting. They reiterated their commitment to taking firm enforcement action against such illicit activities to prevent and deter individuals from participating in or profiting from unlawful gambling. Members of the public are advised to avoid all forms of illegal gambling activities. Those seeking help for gambling addiction can contact the National Council on Problem Gambling at 1800-6-668-668.
